other dentists in the practice who witness this…
Paediatric dentistry questions combine clinical management with age-appropriate considerations — LA dosing by weight, behaviour management. This exam-level vignette tests your ability to work through clinical details and arrive at the correct management.
A senior dentist in a group practice regularly criticises a junior associate's clinical decisions in front of patients and staff. The criticism is sometimes clinically valid but is delivered in a humiliating manner — phrases like 'any competent dentist would know this' and 'did they teach you nothing at dental school?' The junior dentist is demoralised but reluctant to speak up. The other dentists in the practice who witness this behaviour:
- A. Have an obligation to understand the nature and consequences of bullying and to seek to eliminate such behaviour from the workplace — the duty is active, not passive
- B. Should avoid involvement as it is a private interpersonal matter between the senior and junior dentist that does not fall within the scope of the Code of Conduct's professional obligations
- C. Are only required to act if the junior dentist formally requests their support, as unsolicited intervention in a colleague's dispute could itself constitute inappropriate workplace behaviour
- D. Must immediately file a mandatory notification with AHPRA about the senior dentist's behaviour, as workplace bullying constitutes notifiable conduct under the National Law

Section 4.4f explicitly requires understanding the nature and consequences of bullying and harassment and seeking to avoid or eliminate such behaviour from the workplace. This is an active duty placed on all practitioners, not just victims or managers. Option B incorrectly characterises workplace bullying as a private matter outside the Code's scope — Section 4.4f explicitly brings it within scope. Option C makes the obligation conditional on a request — the Code's duty to eliminate bullying is proactive. Option D may be disproportionate — while persistent bullying is serious, it does not automatically meet the mandatory notification threshold of placing the public at substantial risk of harm (Section 9.3).
