rotary NiTi ProTaper files are not marked as…
Infection control in the ADC exam tests decision-making around exposure incidents, instrument classification, and decontamination protocols. This exam-level vignette tests your ability to work through clinical details and arrive at the correct management.
Dr Raj Mehta has just completed a root canal treatment on Patient A using hand K-files and rotary NiTi ProTaper files. He then has Patient B scheduled for a crown preparation requiring high-speed and low-speed handpieces. His dental assistant needs to reprocess the instruments from Patient A and prepare the handpieces for Patient B. The rotary NiTi ProTaper files are not marked as single-use by the manufacturer. How many times can they be reused, and what is the first step of the validated reuse protocol?
- A. Up to 5 times; first step is ultrasonic cleaning in enzymatic solution
- B. Up to 3 times; first step is removing stoppers and cleaning with 10 vigorous strokes in a CHX-soaked sponge
- C. Up to 10 times; first step is soaking in glutaraldehyde solution
- D. Unlimited reuse; first step is autoclaving without cleaning
